The story of Krishna is recounted in many texts, a very popular one being the 10th Skaanda of the Srimad Bhagavad Purana. This book, based on this same Purana, retells the story of Krishna in a format that would make it easy for youngsters to read by themselves or for parents to read out.

This book can be seen as Part 1 of the story of Krishna. It begins with the banishment of Bhagawan Vishnu’s dwarapalakas, which is the origin point for the avatara’s descent to Bhumi. It travels through Bhumi’s plight, the Bhagawan’s promise to her and the birth of little Krishna in a dark dungeon. Following Krishna’s leelas through infanthood as he kills vicious demons and demonesses, the book encompasses Krishna’s beautiful bond with his people and the Gopis and finally culminates with Kamsa’s death.
